Madrid Vacations
Madrid is the capital of Spain. The city sits on the Manzanares River. It has population of 3.2 million people and is the third most populous city in the EU. Madrid also enjoys a Mediterranean Climate with slightly cooler winters.
Like most cities in Spain there is plenty of architecture to see. City Hall and the Catedral de la Almudena are examples of the beautiful architecture that Madrid has to offer. The Cathedral was dedicated to the Virgin of Almudena. If you want to see beautiful modern building the Madrid Cuatro Torres Business Area is sleek and classy.
Madrid also has gorgeous parks to visit. The city is filled with lush green parks. The largest park is the Parque Del Retiro. The park used to be the palace grounds of Felipe IV. It has a large lake in the middle of the park. Also in this park is a memorial of the 2004 Madrid terrorist attacks. If you love art, you are in luck. Madrid is famous for its amount of museums dedicated to Art. The famous Prado Museum is located in the city. If you enjoy opera and music you can go hear the Spanish National Orchestra at the Auditorio Nacional De Musica. The main opera house in Madrid is the Teatro Real.
Other tourist attractions include the Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, and the Templo De Debod. The city also enjoys an exciting night life in the neighborhoods of Bilbao, Tribunal and Alonso Martinez. Of course there is bullfighting to see in Madrid. You can get around town on the National Rail system or the Metro. You can also fly into the Barajas International Airport.
